Shake Off Your Winter Blues – Volunteer at The Caring Place

Are the winter months leaving you feeling a little down? Looking for a way to brighten your days and make a meaningful difference? This February, The Caring Place invites you to participate in our new Volunteer Drop-In Days!

During the entire month, volunteers can drop in Monday through Thursday, from 9 AM to 1:30 PM, and shadow one of our experienced volunteers to see what it’s like to make a difference in the lives of individuals with Alzheimer’s and dementia-related illnesses. Whether you have a few hours or a whole day, this is your chance to bring joy to others while warming your heart and shaking off those winter blues.

The Caring Place is a haven for fun, laughter, and creativity. Volunteers help participants enjoy activities like arts and crafts, seated exercise classes, and live music. If you can lead a simple class, lend a listening ear, or share a warm smile, your presence will brighten someone’s day. Plus, you’ll enjoy a delicious, home-cooked meal as part of your experience.

Your time spent at The Caring Place provides invaluable respite to families who care for their loved ones 24/7. It’s a way to give back, make connections, and feel good about how you’re spending these chilly days. You do not have to have a vast experience dealing with Alzheimer’s disease, you simply have to care about your community.

If you’ve thought about volunteering but weren’t sure if it was for you, Volunteer Drop-In Days are the perfect opportunity to give it a try. Join us and discover how rewarding it is to make a difference. Simply call or email us and say “I’m dropping in!” We’ll greet you and get you started, with the promise that you will want to come back. Pick your days and hours to fit your personal schedule.

For more information, call or email Nina Alter, Director, at 501-623-2881 or director@thecaringplacehotsprings.com. Visit us on Facebook. Don’t let winter keep you down—come find out what you’ve been missing!

Mike Adams, one of the founding members of the Front Porch Stage, says visitors have described their experiences there “as going back in time” and a “piece of Americana.” Concerts have been held on the stage for eleven years.

“Our Front porch is here because people still come and enjoy themselves,” says Jerry Babbitt, technical director for the music series. “We have made some great friends along the way and hope to continue making friends. People have asked why we all give up our Saturday nights and I have to say it’s because people come up to us and say they wish they had something like this where they come from.

Dr. Nathan Groot returns to The Caring Place on Tuesday, March 11th at 10:00 AM

Nathan has experience as an orchestral, chamber, and solo performer. He especially enjoys working with composers as a soloist. In 2018, he was invited by composer Yovcho Krushev to perform as a guest soloist with the Sofia Sinfonietta for the Sofia Music Weeks Summer Festival in Sofia, Bulgaria. In 2021, he also performed at the world premiere of Emily Singleton’s In Our Walk (VIOLA2020 honorable mention). In 2022, Nathan recorded an album of works for viola by underrepresented composers. Of the seven works on the album, six were by living composers. Of those six, three were premiers that required extensive collaboration with the composers. Nathan has also performed in Bad Leonfelden, Austria and in four masterclasses with Professor Thomas Riebl.
